About
I had learned to knit as a kid, sort of. I could do the basic knit stitch over and over and that was it. Didn't know what a purl stitch was or how to cast on or off. Didn't understand any relationship to needle sizes and yarn thicknesses. I gave up quickly, and often.
Fast forward 10+ years to 2001. I picked out yarn for my Grandpa to crochet an afghan for me and I was fascinated by the options. It's worth noting he could knock out an afghan a week back then while he watched hockey. He could crochet so fast you could barely tell what was happening in his hands. Blankets emerged and yarn got eaten up. He was immensely talented.
After picking out this delicious yarn, I was gripped with a desire to once again learn how to knit. I went down to my local book store and bought "Knitting for Dummies" (seriously!) and got my hands on some thick red acrylic yarn and some thick horrible needles. It was slow to start out- I managed eventually to make a scarf that didn't look half bad. Then another, and another...
I made scarves for another few years until my cousin announced that he and his wife were having a baby. I was once again bitten by the knitting bug and the desire to learn something new. Once I learned to make a baby sweater an entire world opened up- the fear of failing or making something ugly vanished.
Many years later I'm an avid knitter, relatively new-ish spinner, sometimes weaver. I love textiles, fabic, fibres- I can't get enough. This world of colour and texture has become my passion.
I'm a working mom who knits/spins/dyes and sometimes indulges in a horror movie or two.
Thanks for being here!
